“The play is the thing” - said Shakespeare.
Nikitskaya JCC children drama club encourages children to play creatively to make a play. Over the 6-8 weeks with classes twice a week the children will put on a play to be performed at the time of holidays - the first to be at Passover. The play will be based on a traditional Jewish story associated with these events but the children will be encouraged to devise an entertaining story with contemporary references to their own lives and their own connections with the story. There will be song and dance, comedy and tragedy. In the rehearsal process the children will be trained to perform, recite, improvise and work together. Bringing techniques from Jacques Lecoq, Dario Fo, Gaulier clowning, commedia dell'Arte the children will through play learn to tell a story in an entertaining way, the classes helping self-expression, co-operation and confidence in everyday life . Parents will be encouraged to participate particularly toward the time of performance with home rehearsal costumes and props all coming together to make the show work - as the man said: “The play is the thing”
