An evening of melodeclamation to celebrate the opening of Nikitskaya JCC's Art's Cafe on William Shakespeare's 451st birthday!
Martin Cooke is the foremost exponent of electronic melodeclamation - the art of melodeclamation was initiated by Schubert and perfected by Eazy E and the N.W.A crew. Martin continues to evolve this rare genre in which classical poetry by Keats, Byron, Shakespeare, Chatterton, etc, is imbued with a contemporary relevance, using music and improvisational drama techniques. And of course poetry should be celebrated in the contemporary manner! A thing of beauty is a joy forever!
The 23rd of April also happens to be Shakespeare's birthday and the national day of England - what better combination of reasons to come along and support the opening day of the new cafe. Hooray!!!
